Home security provider Vivint Smart Home Inc., a Utah based company was found guilty of violating trademark law, and competing unfairly by interfering with rival CPI Security Systems, Inc., contracts. They actually had representatives going door to door falsely claiming that they bought out CPI and unlawfully tricking customers to sign up for their services. Vivent had a similar misconduct case with ADT in 2018 that they settled for $10 million dollars. They have been ordered to pay $189.7 million dollars in damages. A Vivent spokesperson said they would appeal the decision.
